With a goal to provide its business customers with high-speed data and voice services,
Yorkshire region’s leading telecom and Internet service provider, York Data Services, is rolling out a new Fiber-to-the-Curb digital subscriber line 2 (FTTC/VDSL2) network, and the company has tapped C.A.-based Zhone Technologies (News
- Alert) for its FTTx network solution.
Through its partnership with Network Extender Technologies Ltd., Zhone Technologies has implemented its MX-160 solution to secure the new FTTC / VDSL2 infrastructure, which is expected to extend the life of copper networks and enable cost-effective high-bandwidth connectivity for the Yorkshire service provider.
According to the company website, the Zhone MX-160 has been designed to provide next generation VDSL2 DSLAM/MDU ONU features in a compact, hardened form-factor that makes it easy and cost-effective to deliver uncompromised triple play services throughout serving area.
This low-power, fully programmable, high performance solution enables service providers to cost-effectively generate additional revenue through their triple-play offering, including the different iterations of video services emerging in the marketplace.
Zhone's MX-160 solution will ultimately help York Data Services deliver high-speed broadband services to business customers based in the region’s major business parks, over its existing copper infrastructure, according to a statement.
“Zhone was chosen for its industry-leading access technology and high level of knowledge in the FTTx space,” Managing Director for York Data Services, Mark Fordyce, commented. “Our objective for this project is to cost effectively deliver high-speed, reliable broadband services to some of our business parks in Yorkshire using the existing copper infrastructure. Zhone was the perfect partner in helping us achieve this goal, because of the flexibility, scalability and ease-of-use of its solutions.”
Furthermore, Chief Marketing Officer at Zhone, Brian Caskey (News - Alert), said that “this new partnership is proof that service providers globally continue to recognize Zhone as a leading provider of Fiber-to-the-Curb deployments.”
“This new fiber network allows York Data Services to expand its offering and provide advanced broadband services to business customers in Yorkshire. Zhone is dedicated to helping the service provider utilize its current copper infrastructure. Our scalable platforms offer high quality of experience for subscribers, along with ease of management to address the rising costs of network operation-all of which Zhone's customers value,” he concluded.
In other news Zhone announced a new MXK deployment with the Pend Oreille County Public Utility District (POPUD), a public utility service provider in the northeastern corner of Washington State.
