Webinar Offers Tips for Successful Voice Management

Even though cost plays a significant role in today’s economy, businesses that turn to technologies like VoIP, SIP and UC must also deal with the considerable complexities that are brought to the operating environment.
Voice management company Tone Software (News - Alert) recently hosted a TMCnet Webinar “Five Keys to Cut Operational Costs and Boost QoS in Your VoIP, SIP, and UC Environment” to discuss ways to minimize the complexity of convergence throughout the operating environment.
This webinar also included tips on how to ensure VoIP call quality and service levels don’t disappoint corporate stakeholders and included guest speakers Amit Kapoor, director of Strategic Technology Advancement at Tone Software and Paul Wiggins, Convergence (News - Alert) Technology manager at Tone Software.
Kapoor noted during the presentation that converged communications are increasingly multi-vendor based and as a result, there is a need to understand all the ways the systems can be monitored for proper voice management.
“You’ve got a Cisco this, Avaya (News - Alert) this, Acme Packet this, and so on – you need to be able to ensure you can not only interact with these devices, but understand what’s important to be monitored for these devices and then from there, what are the different ways you can monitor this information.”
According to Wiggins, voice today travels over a mash-up of technologies and vendors within the same corporate environment so, “maintaining high quality and service levels within these environments utilizing point products can be problematic at best.”
Wiggins also said that without a unified management approach, each group or each point product can only really take responsibility for their piece of the network and then there’s just no way to really get a complete picture because they lack visibility into the end-to-end quality of the VoIP service and underlying infrastructure responsible for carrying the VoIP service.
Because Voice over IP is a real-time application, any impairment that affects it is instantly perceived by the end user so, according to Kapoor, impairment on the IP network is just as important to seek as impairment within the infrastructure itself.
This maintenance, as well as any management gaps that may exist will, “directly influence your user adoption and reliability and productivity for these services,” Kapoor said.
“You bought these services into your environment because they were mission critical, and you have some desire for ROI - you have to make sure that the services of these environments are mission critical as well.”
